You Get the BudTrader Experience at San Diego Comic-Con 2018… And It Was Epic!
Sometimes the sun, moon and stars all align and you get a perfect eclipse… That was the feeling at this weekend’s BudTrader Experience at San Diego Comic-Con. The notoriously epic cannabis tech brand had everything a Comic-Con attendee could ask for, and a little bit more.
During the BudTrader Experience daytime extravaganza, the brand filled the Quad Ale House in the Gaslamp Quarter with amazing vendors, who were sampling their products to attendees. A favorite of this reporter were the free massages using THC and CBD infused oils, given right on the spot. After relaxing to the max, guests of the BudTrader Experience could watch and participate in video gaming tournaments and meet-and-greet with celebrities like rapper Slim 400, MMA star Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall and George Jung aka “Boston George”, the notorious former cocaine kingpin whose life was the inspiration for the Johnny Depp film Blow. On tap at the bar was a delicious hemp-based beer, and attendees were given SDCC exclusive BudTrader t-shirts and merch. The popular podcast Cannabis Talk 101 was live from the Quad Ale House all weekend, interviewing pro gamers and Maxim models on their broadcast.
By night, the BudTrader Experience turned into one part A-list Comic-Con afterparty, one part raucous nightclub. Spinning all three days and keeping the dance floor pumping was celebrity DJ Birdy Bird. Attendees of the BudTrader Experience Comic-Con afterparty were also treated with big-name musical acts performing every night. On Friday night, LA rapper and BudTrader investor Slim 400 shut it down with a live performance of his hit song Bruisin’ that had promo models, cosplayers and A-list partygoers all going crazy on the dance floor.
Saturday night went off even harder. Rumors were flying around Comic-Con that rap star Chief Keef would be making an appearance at the BudTrader Experience… Finally, at 1AM on Saturday night, in front of a packed house, Chief Keef took to the BudTrader stage in a surprise performance of many of his biggest hits and new tracks off his upcoming album. The hype beasts in attendance agreed that this was an epic performance, as Chief Keef has just announced that he will do a tour as a hologram only and will no longer make live appearances. This left attendees wondering - did BudTrader get the final in-person Chief Keef performance?
Celebrities and VIP guests, along with a few lucky contest winners, were presented with BudTrader Experience Swag Bags, which included products from sponsors such as AbsoluteXtracts, Purity Cannabis, Mind Tricks edibles, Enerhealth, Kush Bottles, Smoking Bear smoke shop and more. Also included in the swag bags were SDCC exclusive “Dude Where’s My Yacht?” BudTrader tees. The slogan refers to last years’ Comic-Con, when BudTrader’s superyacht party was unceremoniously shut down, and the BudTrader yacht was pulled from the 5th Avenue Landing overnight. This caused BudTrader to lose out on their planned Saturday extravaganza, along with tens of thousands of dollars in losses due to the cancellation. Last year, BudTrader’s presence at Comic-Con was covered by publications such as High Times, Times of San Diego, The San Diego Union Tribune and over 400 other news outlets.
