DETROIT -- Comedic actor and marijuana activist Tommy Chong made an appearance in Detroit and met a mayoral candidate at a marijuana advocacy event over the weekend.
The former Cheech and Chong performer appeared at the 7th Annual THC Expo this past weekend at the Roostertail in Detroit.
The THC Expo is said to be Michigan's biggest medical marijuana trade show, with lectures, seminars, demonstrations, entertainment and vendors.
Medical marijuana advocates posted a photo of Chong with state Sen. Coleman Young II, D-Detroit, who is running for mayor, from a Sunday morning meet and greet. Young introduced a bill last year that would legalize marijuana use in Michigan.
He's running against Mayor Mike Duggan in the November election.

At the event, Chong said he plans to bring his brand of marijuana, "Chong's Choice" to Michigan, to be distributed by Hazel Park-based B.D.T. Smoke Shops and two other partners, according to an Oakland Press report.
Chong has made appearance at Ann Arbor's Hash Bash in 2015 and 2016 to celebrate what he called "the greatest plant known to man."
"Ann Arbor was the first, the very first, to stand up and tell everybody there's nothing wrong with this plant," he said last year.
